Welcome back! Today's book review video is on the book Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai. If you haven't watched it, you can find it HERE.

My book club and I recently read this book and I decided to review some Vietnam War facts with them before we discussed the book itself. I looked up some basic facts about the war and why people protested it and how South Vietnam's loss and the fall of Saigon affected the country. I wanted the kids to understand the gravity of the situation Ha (the main character in the book) and her family were facing. There are still a lot of strong feelings about the Vietnam war, but I tried to give the facts and why people felt we should or should not have been involved. If your child is learning about Vietnam or is interested in the country or the culture, this book is a good supplement.
After book club I had all the kids try a Papaya, since that is Ha's favorite food in the book. They weren't a fan! Haha. It's not my favorite, but it grew on me.
Below are some links to some questions and activities for Inside Out and Back Again. Hope they are helpful! Let me know if your child reads the book and what they think of it!
